Crisis Intervention Team

Some of the most important calls deputies respond to involve people going through a crisis.
These situations require more than just a response—they require patience, communication, and the ability to de-escalate safely. How we handle those moments matters, not just for the
individuals involved, but for their families and our community as a whole.
In my career, I’ve had the opportunity to serve as a Crisis Negotiator and now lead the Crisis
Negotiation Team. I’ve seen firsthand how the right training and approach can make a critical
difference in resolving situations safely.
As Sheriff, I will prioritize continued training in crisis intervention and de-escalation for all
deputies. Every deputy should have the tools, training, and confidence to handle these calls
effectively.
This is about protecting lives, reducing harm, and ensuring we are responding to people in crisis with professionalism and care.
Investing in this kind of training strengthens our deputies and builds trust within our community.
