The Sheriff’s Office doesn’t just serve our community on patrol—it also has a critical

responsibility inside our detention facility.

Our detention deputies play a vital role in maintaining safety, order, and professionalism within the jail. It’s a challenging job that requires strong communication, sound judgment, and the ability to manage difficult situations every day.

Just like on patrol, staffing and retention matter in the detention facility. When we have

experienced, well-trained deputies in these roles, it creates a safer environment for staff,

detainees, and the community as a whole.

I also believe in fair and respectful treatment for those in custody. The way we operate inside

the jail should reflect professionalism, accountability, and a commitment to doing things the right way. That includes opportunities for continued education, access to spiritual services, and programs that help individuals leave better prepared for the future. When we focus on accountability while also supporting positive change, we strengthen public safety in the long run.

As Sheriff, I will support our detention staff through training, leadership, and a strong

organizational culture—while also ensuring our facility reflects the values of professionalism,

respect, and responsibility.
