School Safety

The safety of our schools is one of the most important responsibilities we have as a community.

Right now, the Sheriff’s Office has three School Resource Officers (SROs) serving schools

across Eagle County—two covering the schools on the east end of the county and one covering schools in Gypsum. These deputies do an incredible job, but they are stretched across multiple campuses and communities.

School safety is about more than just responding to incidents. It’s about building relationships, being a consistent presence, and creating an environment where students, staff, and families feel safe and supported every day.

As Sheriff, I will prioritize training more deputies to work in our schools to support our current SROs. As our staffing grows, additional SROs will be added in cooperation with the Eagle County School District. This allows for better coverage, stronger relationships within each school, and more proactive engagement with students and staff.

SROs are not just there for emergencies—they are mentors, educators, and trusted members of the school community. The more consistent their presence, the stronger those relationships become. I also believe in strengthening our partnership with the Eagle County School District. When schools and law enforcement work closely together, we can create safer environments, improve communication, and better support our students.

Protecting our schools means investing in both people and partnerships—and that’s a

commitment I will bring as Sheriff.
